Typically, a standard installation takes approximately 3 and a half hours to complete everything, including commissioning your electric vehicle charge point.

We’ll discuss this with you within your journey, when we let you know what installation package you are. Typically 80% of installations are standard.

The type of charger you need depends on your needs and vehicle.

If you’re looking for a tethered charger, this comes with a type 2 plug. The European standard connector is a Type 2, and most vehicles will now be Type 2.

Another option is a Universal Socket (Untethered), which has a Type 2 socket, and you connect your own cable to your charger and your vehicle. This means that you can charge any vehicle with the correct cable that has a Type 2 connector for the socket.

You don’t need to have a smart meter installed before you have your EV charger installer, and having it installed afterwards shouldn’t affect anything either. You can still use your EV charger without one.

It is beneficial to have it installed, especially if you are looking to utilise an EV specific energy tariff with your chosen energy provider.

The Hive EV charger connects via WiFi and a GPRS mobile network – this means if your internet is down or Wi-Fi signal is poor, you’ll still be able to connect to your charger.

You’ll receive a price within our quote tool which will indicate this. These are accurate prices, but to ensure this we’ll confirm everything with you prior to the installation.

There’s no price changes for including installation essentials, that’s all included in our price – the only difference will be how we run your cable or there are any additional works needed.
